Having always been interested in property, Rupert bought his first house when he was at University at the tender age of 19. Since then he has had a long career in property, firstly in Central London in 1989 and then the Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire area through the 1990s, primarily dealing with the Prime property market of St Georges Hill. Then for 20 years as Managing Director of his own successful independent Land and Estate Agency in Esher and Cobham which he eventually sold in 2016.
Passionate about developing and renovating their own houses, including a number of listed buildings, Rupert and his young family relocated to a farm deep in the Devon countryside in 2010 along with their horses, a Labrador and a Dachshund, a herd of Alpacas and an eclectic collection of classic cars. They then set about renovating the farm and its cottages over a period of 7 years, replacing a herd of Aberdeen Angus with a Wedding and Events venue.
Rupert has first hand experience of what it takes to relocate to the West Country, having developed the right contacts, extensive knowledge and a deep understanding of what is required to guide his clients when making the best possible decisions and when it comes to buying the right property in the competitive West Country marketplace.
When not outside walking his dogs, fixing something on the farm or on his boat in Salcombe, Rupert loves skiing, classic cars, shooting and sometimes the odd pint in some of the best pubs in the West Country!
Without an experienced buying agent, Devon house hunters are at the mercy of estate agents, who may not always act in their best interests. While real estate agents aim to maximise profits for sellers, buying agents prioritise finding the perfect properties for clients and ensuring stress-free transactions.
At Black Brick, you’ll be assigned a specialised buying agent who prioritises your needs and guides you through the complexities of the South-West real estate market.
We’ll create a bespoke portfolio full of the region’s most hidden gems and give you first access to properties that are yet to hit the market.
Whether you’re planning for a change of scenery, searching for the optimal rental property, or simply want a holiday home to call your sanctuary, Black Brick will put your wish at the centre of our search strategy.
With over 100 years of collective experience and immeasurable ties to the local real estate market, Black Brick is the first-choice property finder Devon buyers need to secure their ideal home. The region’s unrivalled beauty and outdoor allure are just part of what’s driving the surge in property prices.
According to Land Registry data, Devon experienced over 13,000 property transactions a year between 2021 and 2023. During this time, the average price of a detached house rose by approximately 20%, from £410,524 to £491,182.
Properties in Salcombe, Devon, boasted an average selling price of £1,244,025, placing the town at the pinnacle of the UK’s premier coastal destinations. Salcombe goes beyond its upscale price tag. It also boasts the nation’s most notable capital gain increase of the last decade – an impressive surge of 123% from 2012 to 2022.
But it’s never too late to invest. With a trusted property agent by their side, Devon buyers can still secure a sweet deal and benefit from one of the UK’s most rapidly appreciating real estate markets.
